Gas Gauge This morning

I get into my truck this morning, 2004 Toyota Tacoma 3.4L TRD Stock, and start it up since it was 10 degrees here this morning. I live in an apartment building, so I stay out there with the truck when it's warming up. I notice that the gas gauge is falling and falling fast, WAY past E, had 3/4 of a tank last night. I have no clue what went on, but living in a college town, you can imagine the thoughts that were going through my head. Anyway, I live across the street from a gas station, so i turn the truck off, scrape the ice off the window and drive over there. As soon as the truck begins to move the gas gauge begins to climb, Slowly.

So, it takes me 9 dollars to fill the thing up (about 2.5 or 3 gallons) and the gauge still never reaches the F, stays at about 3/4 of a tank.

Any Ideas???

Thanks... I thought about the sending unit and ice in the tank. Its supposed to be 50 on Monday; I will wait until then to see if it gets better.

Thanks for the replies.
