gas expansion leaked from fuel filter, possible?
22RE - I had the intake manifold off and so the outlet side of the fuel filter was open. Nightly temp was mid-30sF then rose to about 70F during the day. The gas cap was on tight. Walked up to the truck in the evening to a sizable puddle on the ground. Smelled like gasoline, touched the puddle and it turn my finger black. I think the gas was dissolving the chip seal on the road and that's what gave it the black color.
Do you think heat could've caused the air in the gas tank to expanding and push gasoline out of the open fuel filter? The engine was dry when I discovered the puddle but i assumed all the gas had evaporated from where it leaked out. The location of the start of the puddle seems to correspond to the location of the fuel filter outlet.
As of now the gas cap is loosened so air can escape if it expands during the day again.
