fuel tank locking ring

Hey guys. Im restoring a 91 pickup xtra cab 3.0 I have removed bed and tank to replace fuel pump bracket. Will the locking ring come off of the tank? Bolts in bracket broke off. I've drilled them out.... so does the ring come off? Or do I have to tap them. Thanks in advance.

Fuel tank locking ring? Are you talking about the fuel pump bracket itself? Round, has some hard metal lines coming from it to soft lines, some wires going to it and held in by 7 bolts that are 10 mm I believe and possibly still see 4 rubber nipples coming up through it? If so, that is the fuel pump assembly, if you have drilled the bolts out, the whole thing will come up, you will have to tap the holes that the bolts broke off in, as thats how the fuel pump assembly is held in and keeps it from leaking.

Thanks for the quick response. No sir I've removed the fuel pump bracket but the ring I call it would be the flange on the tank itself I drilled out the 7 bolts that broke you were talking about didn't know if that "ring" came off of the tank because it won't budge wasnt sure wanted to replace it but if not ill tap the holes to install new pump bracket

If it is the flange underneath the rubber seal and the bracket. it is permanently mounted on the tank. You just need to remove the 7 screws, make sure your rubber seal is on top of that flange and install your fuel pump bracket. It isnt really a flange, but more of a mounting surface for the bracket.
