I just now tried to see if I could get it (the pin you are talking about) to pull out and then see if it was threaded into the rod. I used a pair of pliers with a substantial amount of force and was unable to get it to come out. Not sure how it is mounted in the rod but it is in there firmly. You might be better off getting a handle that has it installed already. I am not sure how that would of come off. It is in tight.

That is what I was afraid of. I will call YotaYard and see what they say. The handle is useless without the pin, and I paid $35 plus shipping for it! Thanks again!

Here is the latest on this never ending saga! I called YotaYard and spoke to one of the guys there. I mentioned the handle I purchased from them is missing the plunge pin and he told me the pins always shear off whenever a handle is removed, so that is how they sell them. He went on to tell me the only way to get a handle to work from then on (without the pin) is to tighten the cable and never twist the lever when pulling (gently). That obviously didn't work for me.

Toyota sells the plunge pin for $3.45 through a local dealer. On a different forum I found a tutorial (I can post the link if anyone is interested) where a guy explains the "right" way to remove the handle assembly without shearing the pin. The pin can be tapped out which allows for easy removal of the handle.

Given this information and the fact replacement pins are sold aftermarket, I assume it can be replaced by tapping a new pin back in. Have you guys tried that before? I am gonna buy a pin and give it a shot! Thanks again

I dont think I will be dealing with Yotayard. You unbolt the two bolts holding at the dash and the two nuts at the firewall. I undo the connections under the truck to the bracket on the passenger side and bring the whole cable out with the assembly in one piece or you can get enough slack to pull the cable far enough into the cab to put the cable back into the rod with a lot of room to work with ease.

I have an FSM and have never looked at how to replace a cable but that is how I do it. You can easily install the cable and assembly that way without damaging the pin. Not sure how to install that pin.

On the Tacoma`s you need to remove the pin to get the cable out in that style handle . It keeps the handle from rotating so the holes line up.

I fought trying to get the pin out for quite awhile.

Just to the air die grinder with carbide burr enlarged what I had to got the old cable out the new one in no problems.

If they sheared that pin off the amount of pressure I can`t see the handle is not bent.

Good luck it is a press in fit Getting the old piece out if it is sheared will be interesting .

If you change your mind drop me a Pm.
