My transmission on my 2001 4Runner SR5 4WD went out. It's at least a $3,200 repair. I have 186,000 miles on it. I'm worried that if I fix it this won't be the last major repair at my mileage. Should I fix it or buy a new 4Runner?

 

Buy a used one yourself, pay someone to put it in.

$3200 is ludicrous.

 

Ya that seems crazy. Find a used one and get someone who works with Toyotas to install it. At the most, I'm sure you can get it done for half of that $3200. Or if you are really not that attached to your 4Runner, see if you can find one with a 5-speed or something. But I personally would just get the trans. replaced.
