Hello dude. I had 82 22r eng rebuilt and i wanted to know how to make sure eng is at top dead center after it was rebuilt. I have valve cover on already. Can i take a screw driver and see if piston is up in cylinder? Or do you know? Please help. Thanks, george 770-880-1106 toyota prospector. Ga

Hello dude. Pull the valve cover off to verify both valves are closed. Then you can also see the timing marks on the cam pulley along with the crank pulley down low.
A screwdriver in the spark plug hole will tell you if the piston is at TDC, but doesn't indicate whether its on compression stroke or exhaust stroke. Just my thoughts on how I would do it.

Its odd that the cap is not number.
On the V6 dist cap, wire #1 is where the plug for the dist goes, it turns CCW.
The firing order for the v6 is easy, 1-6, passengerside plugs are 1,3,5 and drivers 2,4,6.
On a dist cap that has the angled plug sockets the order is 1,5,3,4,2,6.
