Something probably got wet, check the wiring connections on the engine. The ignitor, coil, afm/maf, etc. Pull the connectors apart and spray some WD-40 in them. That should get the water out.

Of course there's also a slight chance that it's totally coincidental, but highly unlikely.

Oh, and one hint for future posts, year, model, engine type would be useful info

And stop using coloured fonts, green doesn't show up very well for those of us with older eyes

It's likely your alternator got a dose of water. It happens to me every once in a while. Less likely is your distributor got wet, but since it's a lot higher, it's not as likely to get soaked. It's usually a temporary situation.

you think that would make my truck miss and not have any power? i dont think so... i can floor it and it bogs and misses bad... i have a small hill by my house and i had to have it in second gear half throttle to make it up haha... when i floor it, it just misses and cuts out etc... so i dont think its the alternator

Yeah, I think it is the alternator getting wet. I don't know why it makes it bog down and miss. I think the water grounds the current for a second or so, keeping it from getting to the rest of the ignition. It is definitely electrical related. Mine does the same thing you are describing--falls on its face for a second or so. If you don't think it's the alternator, what do you think it is? The alternator is the lowest part of the electrical system that I can think of.

Yeah...gotta dry things out a little and it will be fine. Spray the inside of your distributor cap with WD-40. The WD on that stands for Water Displacer.

Another thing that is possible is that the insulation on your plug wires could be cracked. These cracks allow moisture and dirt to short the current before it reaches your plugs. It doesn't even have to be raining/wet outside for this to be a problem. High humidity can create these problems. Do you have any idea how old your plug wires are? They might need to be replaced.

Uhh... surprised no one has mentioned this, but you may have inducted a large amount of water in the air intake. If it made its way into the cylinders, it's time for a new motor. Water does not compress, and results in engine damage. I'd do a compression check. My son's friend just had this happen in his Honda. Lots of rain here lately, and he drove through a good-sized puddle of standing water.

I had the same exact problem. Wait until it is dark and open the hood. Take a look at all of your spark plug wires and distributer cap. Rev the engine up and look for spark/arcs. I had 2 wires that were bad and were arcing to the valve cover causing the miss. It was worse on days that it rained, but came on all of a sudden after hitting that puddle. Check it out.

You could also check the connection to the AFM. Does it stay alive at idle?
