Engine swap problem

Hey! I am new to this site and I am having a problem with a motor that I bought. I bought a JDM 3.0 motor that I am trying to put into my 89 truck. The wiring harness is coming off the wrong side. What is the easiest way to make this work in my truck? Do I have to buy a new wiring harness and new computer? My harness on my truck is dry rotted bad and brittle. Can I splice what I need of the new harness into my harness and use my original computer. Please help this newbie.

I would reuse as much of your original harness as you can. Replace wires that need it, making sure to make good notes as to what you did, and where you did it, for trouble shooting an repairs in the future. Whenever possible, just splice in and solder a new wire between the ends of the bad wire, so that each end retains its original wire color (matching the wiring diagrams) Be sure to seal your solder joints with shrink wrap, too.

You will probably find that you need to swap over some sensors and components. If you still have the old engine, take copius amounts of pictures from all angles, then try to make the JDM engine match those pictures as closely as possible. This will aid it making sure that the JDM engine will be able to properly communicate with your ECU.

I hope this helps, and good luck!
