ECM BATT CEL Code

First, yes, I searched the forum and found that P1600 means ECM BATT Malfunction (Toyota).

I have a 1996 4Runner, automatic.

I was trying to find information on what this error code means. I found a couple of articles that talked about possibly bad fuse or battery connection but im not sure. The light has been on for about a month. It goes off after the car has sat for about a week and doesn't come on until the car has been driven, turned off, and started again. Sometimes it will just be on even if the car has sat for a while though.

I have no loss of power, but my clock is out, don't know if that's related. College student living on campus, tools are quite limited.

Thanks in advance!

Benjamin

On the later model toyota vehicles there is an internal battery in the computer, and if it gets weak or goes bad it will throw a code, and the only way to fix it is to replace the computer. Have you checked your battery cables and battery to make sure there good ?.

If the battery cables are old it would be a good idea to just replace them, sometimes corrosion can get inside the cable and cause problems.
