cv change for 94 pickup

I just found that my outer cv boot has been mutilated. After searching the forums I think I will replace the shaft rather than the boot. I was wondering if there is a specific write up w/ pics to do this on a 94 pickup. I have found great write ups for tacomas, but not any specific ones for my truck. I have read that the two trucks are totally different right? Every forum seems to say "search", but I have been doing so for the past hour and have not found a detailed step by step write up. I may be mistaken, but I have been searching hard with no luck. Thanks for the help. I really appreciate it.

Best photo tutorial I've seen for the replacement is in my Haynes manual.

When you dissasemble the hub, if the cone washers won't come out just use a small flat head screwdriver and hammer it into the slot on the cone washers and they pop right out.

I have am just beginning to work on my own truck and have little to no experience with wrenching. Everyone says that this is really simple to do, so I thought it would be a great place to start. Is the manual's directions detailed enough for a beginner like me to follow or is this too hard a project for someone like me to accomplish? Thanks again

sorry, I forget something. Is your manual's directions any different from the one posted on this forum. I have looked over that manual's breakdown of removing the shaft, but it seems to broad for me. This may just be too hard for me.

Thanks for searching, at least you tried.

Since there's been a rash of these questions lately, I've put up writeup in the tech section: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f128/changing-cv-boots-86-95-ifs-toyotas-81059/

Enjoy.

Got your PM. I don't have a reason for taking out only two studs, that's just what I did. As for the method for removal, I don't know, I just pounded mine out.

People seem to have varying success with various methods of CV removal. My method may work for you and it may not. Some people have to take things apart at the ball joints. I can't guarantee your CV will just fall out like mine did.

After the job is complete, how do you put the studs back in? I don't really understand the quick mod write up sanding the bolts, how does that work exactly.

You just tighten them up like bolts - they will "press" themselves in. This would really be a great time to replace them with actual bolts - will make any future work A LOT easier! Size is M12-1.25 x 30mm. Interestingly, they will take a 19mm wrench, not a 17mm like the factory...

so how do I pound out the studs? I have a c clamp, should I just put one end of the clamp on the tip of the bolt, and the other side of the clamp on the diff side flange, then squeeze it out? I read that a deep socket must be used with the c clamp, but how will that work? Or should I just pound on the tip of the bolt?

Once I get the studs out and replace them with the new bolts, do I need lock nuts or anything to go with the bolts? THanks
