If the clutch pedal feels normal, and the engagement point is high, and the symptoms got worse over time.... it is the clutch slipping.

I'd call around for estimates for fixing a "slipping clutch". That will tell you how much you might save if you do it yourself.

The clutch disc is wearing and it probably won't last too much longer. Whe you replace it or have it replaced, make sure to have the flywheel resurfaced. You'll still have some burn marks on it from the burning disc. Make sure to get a good clutch kit, either Toyota, centerforce, etc... The kit should have a new pilot bearing and throwout bearing which should be replaced while the clutch is out anyway. When my friend had his done they wanted around $6-700 for parts and labor. I did mine for the price of the clutch which was $265.

No offence, if I'm wrong, but it sounds as though you might be a mechanical novice.

If that is the case, I would not recommend trying to do a clutch by yourself, the first time out. If you have a KNOWLEDGEBLE friend or relative to help you, go for it. If not, get it done by a professional. There is way too much chance to seriously hurt yourself, if you don't know what you are doing.

My clutch was incredibly easy to replace. Mostly b/c i took my 3.0 out of a truck and put it in a 4runner, so i replaced it while it was on an engine stand. That being said, not sure if there is a way to do it without pulling the motor or dorpping the tranny. Good luck!

I didn't have a jack tall enough so I drained all the fluid, unbolted the t-case and bench pressed it out. I did the same with the tranny. I just had my wife get a couple of bolts started while I held it in place. It took me about 1 1/2 hours to do it. Make sure to drop the rear of the tranny a little and will make it easier to get the 2 top bolts of the bellhousing. I just used some long extensions and my air ratchet.Make sure your clutch kit comes with an alignment tool, if it doesn't, be sure to get one.
