I have a 1991 Pickup ext. cab with the 3.0 in it. Right now i am at 87000 miles and my clutch is going bad. This doesn't seem normal for such low mileage...

My plans are to replace it within the next couple of weeks. My questions are:

What kind of clutch would you replace it with? Brand?
How expensive is it going to be?
How long will it take to do the complete swap?
Is there anything else i should check out while the clutch is out?

Hey, an OE replacemen one from autozone would do the trick, they run about $130 for a kit (includes clutch, pressure plate, bearing, the alignment tool and pilot bearing. You can go for an upgraded heavier duty clutch but you'll be paying a bit more cash, they are nice though and last longer. should take around 3hrs or so depending on how fast you go.

 

Do as the wabbit suggests. OEM Aisin is best.

If you are shopping around for another OEM brand (not toyota OEM), go with Luk.

IMO, I would stay away from crap you can buy from Autozone, Orielly's, etc....

I want to see someone change a clutch in 3 hours!!!

Who has never done one before.I would say closer to a very long day or a whole weekend

It is not all that easy if you don`t have help The hard parts are getting it out and back in.

Not having Two floor jacks nor any idea of what all needs to be disconnected .

Now you have it out the flywheel is scored so bad or you have teeth broke off the flywheel ring gear. pilot bearing won`t come out all kinds of interesting things

Perhaps no air tools stubborn bolts and nuts from the winter slop.

Driving style has a lot to do with clutch wear !!

I have Luk clutches in two of my trucks and another waiting for the engine swap .

I must also say I have a Aisin on the shelf that took a very long time to get so while it was on order I went with the Luk had it in 3 days

 

Well i have never done one before but my brother is a deisel mechanic and my dad knows alot of engins also so hopefully it will go some what quickly.

Yea i have a feeling there is going to be alot of stubborn nuts and bolts but thats why you have a torch!

How expensive was one of your Luk clutches?

 

i went with a sacs from oreily, a family friend owns a transmission shop and said their the best buy for the money, also while your replaceing your clutch you might want to replace your slave cylinder, mine was 13$ and i just replaced it anyways

 

x2 on the slave cylinder. you might as well replace it while you're down there.

 

So all together what do you think my overall cost will be? with both clutch and slave cylinder
