Check Engine Light: 1994 4wd 22RE

okay so heres the deal, my dad had the truck awhile back when it was still his and the check engine light came on and so he took it to the shop to have whatever was wrong with the engine fixed. the guy ended up saying that the egr valve needed to be replaced, so my dad buys a new one and never puts it on, then i get the truck and so i put it on. And surley enough the check engine light is still on , i just traced out a new gasket to put on the egr cuz at the moment it does not have one. could that be why the light is still on? Thanx

How do you expect us to help you if you don`t even tell us what year truck you have and what engine it has ???. Try checking the codes and see what comes up, that way your not just throwing parts at it trying to fix it.

Looks like you're off to a decent start.

I would do some searching on here and Google about that code and what the common causes are - might help you narrow it down even more before spending useless money.

What the code is, should be in the same section that describes how to get it...

You're asking a lot of guys to remember something from memory you could prolly find a few pages over...

My book only goes up to 88. And for an 88 71 is the; EGR system malfunction - EGR gas temp. below limit during EGR operation

God I love OBD-1.... Need to read a code? Use a paper clip?

Need to clear the computer? D/c the batt. terminal for what is it? 30secounds to 1 minute?

And just so y'all know. No, you can not do this with OBD-2... And that's why I will NEVER own one.
