carberator problem

I have an 85 22r carburetor that no longer works. it starter out where i had to pore starting fluid or a little bit of gas straight into the carb to get it running. and it would continue to run n do fine. week later when i gt more time it would only run a few secounds. now it wont run at all. i tried one of my spare carbs and no luck.

Does anybody have any answers that could help me out?

Pull the fuel line at the carb and put the end into a bottle and turn the motor over. It should have a good flow, if not you have a fuel pump ,fuel filter or fuel line problem. It might also be bad fuel.

The little sight glass on the front of your carb should be about half full with gas with the line right in the middle. I'm having a similar problem with my Weber right now. It is rebuilt but still does not work. I think with me tho is that it does not have any kind of choke. I think I'm just gonna replace the whole thing and get the Outlaw 38 that i really want instead of messing with it. If you have fuel where swampfox stated above then it does sound like your carb needs attention. Good luck and keep us posted.

yes it fills the glass half way. and thats about all i know its doing. i got it off and put another stock carb on it. unfortunately same problem. i have another carb but dirt dobbers got into it and vacuum ports. i have it soaking in cleaner now. Im taking apart the original trying to find a flaw.

I was going to get a new carb but the most affordable one is 270$. and money inst abundant right now. anyone know of good carbs or rebuild kits for a better price?

A bad accelerator pump or trash in the passages can cause the starting problem. I guess you could have two carbs do the same thing. Pull the air breather off and look down the throat of the carb and work the throttle, there should be a stream of gas shoot into the carb . If it doesn't have a stream of gas it is probley one of the two things listed above.
Napa makes a good carb kit just make sure the instruction sheet is right , the kit I bought had the wrong instructions.
