calling all genius'- help

Hi there peeps...i have an interesting problem.
I just bought a jeep kit car, built on a nissan chassis with the only mod being the rear diff, an m75, i think it's a toyota diff? the front is an R180 diff with manual locking hubs. Engine is Ford 3lt v6 and gearbox t.c is toyota prado, at least thats what i've been lead to believe. In my research i think it may be a r151f box (how and where do i check this?) but it's the T.C thats baffling me. Where and how do i identify the t.c? Prado's are supposed to be permanent 4wd or am i mistaken? Well for the life of me i cant get drive to the front wheels. I've locked the hubs, put it in hi and low and nothing? If i keep the car in gear in hi or low with the F.hubs unlocked i can turn the fwd drive shaft, lock the hubs and i can't turn it, so the hubs are definately locking...so if im not an absolute fool i'm convinced it's either a broken t.c or a 2wd to 4wd engageable t.c? Hence my need to identify the t.c and this mystery.
Now if i look at the t.c i see alot of wiring and even some rubber hose right at the top connecting things to things on the t.c, the problem is the wiring harness that leaves the gearbox area towards the engine bay just ends off it 2 plugs that are blanked off...could this be my problem or is it indication wiring?
Please help...i'm doing my nut trying to get 4wd so i can go ape in baviaans, got me some big rubber and dont wanna put it on till i sort it out.
Here are some pictures of the t.c, maybe they'll help?
Thanks guys

Looks like that is an actuator on the back of your t case. I would unplug it and chect to see if you have power going to it with a test light while someone hits the 4X4 button up top.

You might also check in with Marlin. Not many that can beat his knowledge on this subject.

Thanks for the quick response.....well thats just it....all the wiring going from transfer case to engine bay is blanked off, two plugs. it's a kit car so there is no 4wd button....and thats what i'd like to find out, so u think it is a part time transfer case and it just isn't set at 4wd and not something wrong with the t.c as a permanent 4wd? i thought that looked like an actuator but what are the two tubes at the top of the t.c for?
So can i believe that it ISNT a perma 4wd and is in fact a part time? And if so where can i find out how to get the wiring diagram to set up the 4wd switch? basically if it is a part time, how do i get the system working?

I am betting that it is a part timer. Another thing u could do is take off the actuator and manually turn the shaft behind it to see if u can ingage it like that. If it works then it is time for some custom wiring. Hit me up any time for advice, we just did this to a Mazda Navajo two weeks ago. I will have some time tomarrow to give you some Ideas on wiring.

thanks jsn, i'd really appreciate it. Wiring ain't my forte but i'll do anything to get this baby wheelin... Any idea what model t.c it is? i've looked everywhere for some kind of identification stamp or number but nothing?? i need to find out what gearbox is too....want to get a heavy duty clutch but i dont know where to start;(
will let you know re manual engage....would it be that simple, how much revolution does it take to know whether it's engaging or not? oh and those tubes at the top of t.c, what are they for?

ok some new feedback...
It seems i i can now say it's definately a tranny and t-case from an Ln130 surf probably 88-93 with the electric shift: http://www.toyotasurf.asn.au/forum/v...=127920#127920
So should i post on a new thread or can we figure out my wiring here?

not to hyjack but it seems like an interesting mix of parts on this rig... what does this thing look like? Why did they use so many different brands when they made it?

ha ha ha interesting it is, i must say it's put together pretty well, and once the 4wd is goin, it will be something to be reckoned with. The bonus is, being glass fiber, it's super light top half, so a really low c of g, and i've made moulds of all the panels i'll most likely smash to smithereens wheelin. Not sure why so many different parts but they work pretty well together, the ford 3lv6 essex is known for its low down torque and high up power, also very under optimized, guys are pushing 250kw with very little mods, the nissan chassis i have no idea why, it's ifs, so there they could've made a better choice, the only perk is the diffs are geared perfect, 4.875, i've sourced a locker for the rear, and i'm considering welding up the front cos it's running manual hubs and a part time electric shift t.c, what do you rekon? i mean, i'll only use 4wd on serious trails anyway, i'm in south africa, no snow, hardly any rain, and loads of offroad

Thats her with her 32" street shoes.....she's waiting for 4wd so she can go dancin in her 33" bfg's

Many will tell you not to weld the front. If you ever plan on making turns while in 4wd i would go with something else. The locker in the rear will make it very capable. I can say that i have never seen a jeep body ontop of the set up you have... interesting Kinda like the old international scouts, they had ford, chevy, and AMC components.

yeah i'm with you, this is my second jeep kit and my first had the same engine (quite popular in S.A), but all isuzu chassis and tranny, wrote her off when a dumbass skipped a light. But i don't think i've heard of an abortion kit like this before, for one thing, i'm not sure what 4wd groups i trully belong to and i'll have the world's biggest manual compilation for just 1 car
I don't know the international scout, probably never came to s.a.....but i'm sure i like it, anything short stout and butch rocks my boat
I just need to figure out this 4wd wiring and i'll be happy. Yeah i'll do some more research into the welding up front idea, i doubt i'll ever do 4wheelin at speed so the traction issue isnt a problem, shes gonna be purely for extreme wheelin and launching my boesch runabout in the surf.
