Caliper type on 1986 pickup 22RE

What type of calipers are on the 86 Toyota truck 4x4 with the 2.4 EFI?It originally had a turbo engine in it.Are they the stationary kind or two piece on the front?

kinda confusing, but stationary implies does not move and 2 piece implies two pieces. If you look on your calipers there should be a stamping on them if they are OEM that says something like S12W, S13WB, S12+8.

To my knowledge, all toyota truck calipers are 2 piece and all bolt directly to the steering knuckle and do not float. Which would make them stationary and 2 piece. which is why your above question to me makes no sense.

Maybe we can better help you, if we know what you are trying to do.

They're one piece. 4 pistons, 2 each side - stationary. They dont float like a say a GM front caliper on say a 1500 Chevy

Asked about the calipers because a friend back east has a similar rig though in better shape and said his caliper pins required no lube/grease.

I retitled your thread - "Calipers" doesn't do any good for people searching for this info later on.

Please try and keep the search engine in mind when titling new threads.

Thanks!

drew, I don't know about the 86 but on my 87, the calipers on mine are two piece.

By pins he is referring to the retainer pins on the brake pads themselves, unlike the previous mentioned GM calipers which require grease for the caliper itself to slide on.

s12-8 (4cyl) same ones on my 87
s12w (6cyl & turbo???) see last photo below, same thing 2 piece.

as you can see they are two piece , you can see the line down the center and the 2 bolts that hold them together.

here they are apart:

no no grease at least the FSM doesn't call for it, however they are a PITA to get out if not serviced regularly.
