To buy or not to buy?

I am looking in to getting my first Yota 4x4. My friend's father is selling his 1994 4runner V6, auto, 4x4, to me for $4000. Its all stock with 130K miles on the clock. He has always brought it into the dealer for service since it was new. Head gaskets where done at the dealer at 90K and I think he told me that there was an AC recall that was done too. He also got a new paint job because the roof and hood were oxidizing. It has never touched the dirt in its lifetime...yet.
So, my question is, should I buy this 4runner since I pretty much know the history of its life over getting something cheaper? I have seen 90-95 4runners go for $2500-$5000. Should I spend less and risk having to do repairs? I have seen 22re 4runners go for $3000-$3500. I am partial to the 22re because my 2wd has one, but the V6 is fine. (I used to have a 92 Ford Explorer in high school and sold it with 270K miles when I got out of college, and it still ran great.)

Sorry for the long newbie post, but I've seen all your guys's FAT trucks and I have come to one conclusion: I NEED TO GET ME ONE OF THESE!!

think about it... repairs ARE expensive and if you know the history of the vehicle then you can feel better knowing that you dont have to be afraid to spend money on mods, hoping that something mechanical doesnt break leaving you broke.

well i dont know....it does seem like you got money by looking at your sig now....

It's not an extreme price and sounds like it is in excellent shape. Buy it.
You probably won't find anything as nice in that price range.

it fits in the price range you mentioned, you know the history, I would go for that one. Not saying you may not find issues down the road with the truck but at least this way you know that the truck was properly taken care of (based on what you said) and doesn't have 20 owners listed on the title history...

I'd buy it sounds like an alright deal and knowing the history of the truck is reassuring.

Sounds like a good price but I would check the gearing first. My friend has a 4-runner just like you described....v6, auto trans.......and 4.10 gears. That thing is a DOG. If you are planing on doing any type of off roading with it in its current condition then it will need gears if it is 4.10. Not to say you wont change the gears out someday anyway but with 4.10 it may not be the ideal vehicle to hop in and go offroading with in stock trim if thats what you were planing to do.
