Hey guys new to the site but not to yotas. What I am trying to do is build a 2" body lift for my 86 truck and need to know if the spacers are two inches irate they taller because of removing the rubber bushing between the cab and frame?

 

is it really cheaper to build one compared to buying a kit? Seem like by the time you buy materials and hardware you would be near the price of a complete kit.

Yes the kit is much easier but I work in a machine shop and I have about 8 he's to kill tomarrow and all the right material to do it

 

Not only are the kits easier but they are also cheaper and tend to be safer. I've seen many body lift "pucks" on the trail that have been cracked or torn out. If you must do it yourself then you should email Roger of 4crawler. He'll know just what you need.

 

Just measured. Spacers are exactly 2 inches tall.
Make them as wide as you can too.

I would still just buy the kit though.

 

I have to have my truck back on the road by next Friday and my bumper and grill will not fit on without the body lift......

 

i have some 4041 at my shop im thinking about making a small 1" body lift. very easy job if you can get on the lathe.

 

Then just use hockey pucks. We won't judge you for being in a hurry.

 

I have some mc109 in 2" diameter that we use to make plastic gears that will work perfect just need to step the end to fit into the cups on the frame. I plan on drilling out the frame and using 7/16 bolts grade 8 the only other thing I might need to make is a steering extention.

 

Sounds like a good plan to me, I also work at a machine shop and plan on building my own 2" BL for a drivetrain lift. I dissagree with everyone who says that you should just buy the kit, I think I can build one just as good if not better than what you can buy. According to 4crawler, you won't need a steering shaft extension.

Im thinking of making my own from some 2 1/2" diameter uhmw stock
and use 7/16" bolts.

 

Hey lancer what part of VA r u denwitti here. Thanks for the info rob. I have built both front and rear bumpers, grill, shift and control knobs, and have seats out of a Mazda 626. Hopefully will be installing a flatbed soon

 

You don't remove anything, such as the rubber bushing between the cab and frame, you put in the body lift.

UHMW is ideal material for your BL, Be sure you get the largest 7/16" washers you can get, McMaster Karr has what you need.

I would also use nylon inserted lock nuts to be sure they don't back off.

They will likely fail eventually, you might as well replace them before they do.
