brake problem

I just bought a 96' 4runner Limited and the brake pedal is very soft. If I pump it about three times they stiffen up and work right. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

after you pump, hold the pedal. Does it still sink to the floor? If yes, you have a leak and/or bad master cylinder. bleed em as well.

How does the fluid look?? It might be time for a change

You could have old rubber brake hoses that swell up when put under pressure.

Are you losing any fluid??

You can have a slight leak drawing in air that just loses a real small amount of fluid.
