Blown Engine swap out for a 91 4 runner

Hello All,

I have a 91 4 runner V6 3.0L and the engine is blown(cracked block). I have located a 93 4 runner engine that has 102 000 km. I want to swap out the engines. A few questions....

Other than doing a compression test and oil pressure what else should I check out with the new engine?

What should a good compression be for the new engine.

the wiring harnesses will not match is there anything i should look out for?

I think the timing belt has been done should i re do the clutch at the swap out time?

Any other advise out there?

Thanks Alot, Simon

Hod did you crack the block? Did you throw a rod? Thats the only way i've seen those blocks get damaged. As far as compression goes, just make sure all cylinders are within 10% of each other. They usually run between 165-185 lbs. Important thing is they are all even. Check and replace any leaking oil seals, might as well put a clutch in it and just look it over to see anything worn out or leaking

Or, since you already need to swap, consider doing a 3.4 swap. You'll get more power, a bit better fuel economy, and better driveability, especially if you ever take it onto the Coquihalla.

x2

Why anyone would ever consider putting a 3.0 back in is beyond my comprehension...

What year did they go to a 3.4L? Any other problems I might run into going up to the 3.4L

Thanx

Not until the 3rd generation.

It is not a difficult swap, but it will take some electrical work. The blocks are the same, but you need to swap oil pans, pickup tube, and dipstick. There is relocation of the battery.

You need to set aside time and a desire to do a lot of hands on work.

A couple websites:

You must not replace the 3.0 with a 3.0.

You must swap in the 3.4... really, you just have to.

But, if you want to go 3.0 again (I know you don't, no way) then make sure you get the ECM from the new motor. You'll also want the new 3.0 to have a complete uncut wiring harness. Checking the compression is always good and any maintenance records or history from the previous owner might be helpful.

By the way, I just took my "new" 3.4 out on some hwy hills yesterday and was thoroughly impressed. One grade I usually had to build major momentum for and drop to 4th with full throttle just to keep 60 by the top I now screamed up in 5th going 75!!

I actually had to let off the gas... that's right, let off the gas in 5th on a hill!! And that's pushing 35's with a SAS.

There is no way you want that 3.0 back in there. No way...
