I have 35x12.5's on stock gearing, yes it's pretty slow but once you get going it isn't too bad. I will be getting a locker next and really I wish I had gotten one of those first, but you live and learn right? Plus I love the tires so do what makes you most happy.

 

33's rub on my truck with a 4 inch suspension lift, its kind of slow but it drops the rpms on the freeway a little and i get about 22mpg average with a carb 22r so i am pretty happy with my tires, i would body lift it about an inch and half so the tires dont rub and i would be golden, so if you dont plan on making it flex a whole bunch you will be good

If you want to go 33's, you can fit them stock with a little pounding/trimming. It's free and will take about 45 minutes. Search and you shall find much info.

Or, install 33X10.5's if you can find them. BFG make's em, or at least used to. They will not degrade your performance as much as the wider 33's and will not rub at all stock.

You can probably fit 35's or even bigger with that 3" body lift but you should really regear with 33's. As it is you'll hate the performance with those tires and stock gears. Your fuel economy is going to suck too. It will go down with bigger tires no matter what but with stock gearing it really goes down.

You just might find that saving up for gears or searching for used differentials saves you money in the long run.

I ran 33x12.50" BFG muds with just a 3" body lift. My rims stick out ALOT (3.5" BS) so I had rubbing issues. 35's would NOT fit without some major trimming/pounding.

I also like the look of a little extra wheel well space

Lol i don't know anthing about trucks. What are lockers and what do they do?? How much do they cost? and how much does it cost to get a truck regeared? ALso, what are differentials? Lol i feel stupid becasue all you guys know so much but hey it dont hurt to ask

Ever tried doing a burnout and only one tire keeps spinning and make smoke...? Well a locker "locks" up the rear pumpkin thats in the middle of the axle (pumpkin also called a differential(differential=Ring and pinion gears inside of it all)) so that the traction goes to both tires instead of just one.

There are different types of lockers, Auto: which keep the deff locked all the time (some have bad on road handling during turns)... Then theres selectable lockers...which you basically flip the switch when you get offroad and your axle is locked, since you wouldnt be using it on the street, the handling and turning characteristics do not change. Selectable lockers are far more expensive then auto lockers

Auto lockers : The recent rave reviews are coming from Aussie Lockers, Theres also lockright and detroit true trac.

Selectable : ARB air lockers have great reviews, But since you need onboard air compressor to run it the price goes up quickly.
Theres also Detroit E lockers...


As far as gears go, Basically if you put on bigger tires like 33's like you want, your going to need lower gears.. Havent ever looked to much on costs but to getting them set up by a pro which is really important and hard to do DIY, the cost of re gearing is a bit steep.

Yukon gears are a common choice...dont know many other off the top of my head...

A simple search would have yielded all the answers you seek. A locker is a pretty basic thing, not really rocket science. Hell, even wikipedia would have given you the answer.

The "biggest tire I can run" thread/topic has been covered more times than I have logged in, and thats a lot! If you ever want to know if you can DO something....JUST DO IT. Why ask? Thats the FUN of modifying stuff. If you want a perfect fit everytime with no rubbing, run the stock tires on the stock suspension with NO mods, and I gaurantee you won't have ANY issues.

Now lets all have a buck up, and start modding your truck. You never know until you try it.
