better mpg info

right now i need to regear. 4.10s and 33in tires are not cutting it(about 200mi a tank of gas and no power). i dont even use 5th because on flat ground its fine but any kind of incline it will lose speed. so i leave it in 4th on the freeway. so, would regearing help with alittle bit more power and mpg any. i was wanting to go with 4.88s, and also its a 22re and 5 speed.

4.88's will bring the RPM's up more than with the 4.10's. That will help you with power, but in theory will lower you're MPG.

In theory.... but you also have to take into account that the motor won't have to work as hard to turn the tires. Before the larger tires, the RPMs were higher, and so was the MPG, but after, both declined. I've heard of some people going as low(numerically higher) as 5.29's for 22RE powered trucks/4Runners with 33's. I plan to go with 4.88's with my 5speed V6, also.

I get 20mpg avg with 33's and 4.88's. 87 22re/5speed. I've gotten up to 22.5 mpg in the past.

I wouldn't. Save yourself the work/money of an engine swap, and just go with the gears. If you drove your rig before the large tires, it was probably fine (although somewhat slow, as are most Toyotas). I'll be going with 4.88's as soon as I have money to do it. I have 4.30's, so I have a little less to deal with than you, though.....but we're still in the same ball park being undergeared.

My stock gears were 3.73 and after 35s and 1'500lbs of additinal weight it was too much for the engine. My consumption nearly doubled from 13 l/100km in city to ~21 l/100km city. After re-gearing to 4.56 it was a definate better workload for engoine (from 75-80% to 50-55% at 2'500rpms highway. But for consuptioin it gone down only 2 l to 19 l/100km.
I'd say re-gear will help you with engine load and its lifespan, but barelly does for consuption. Actually it does help with city consuption a little, but highway will probably stay the same as before. My understanding is that weight keeps high consumption in the city and re-gear will help put better torque here, but at highway speed aerodynamics play major role and heaving truck with allot of add-ons doesn't help.
Conclusion - yes, its worth it, but now, you would not get back to unmoded numbers in any way.
