Question Axel for 1992 pickup

Hey all I've got a 2wd 92 pickup with a 22re and I love it I'm currently thinking about buying a used axle for pretty cheap & rebuilding it on account mine currently in the truck is leaking where the third member or differential not to sure what to call it bolts to the axel housing and needs a seal. well looking into it I'm supposed to pull the axles out of the housing to disconnect them from the 3rd so I can pull the differential from the axle housing to replace said seal. While all that stuff is out I'm going to change the wheel barrings and seals. So instead of not having a truck figured I'd fill my differential with gear oil make sure the breather valve is clear of obstructions and drive it as it is. So i can get the bearings pressed out & in then reassemble the axle & just replace the old one with the new one or could I just use the new axles & keep the old housing in the truck & save myself the trouble. Let me know what you think. Sorry for rambling on.

What ever works best for you

How many miles on your axle??

A nice low mileage one can`t hurt anything

depending just where you live removing the axle housing might be an adventure
