Auto or 5speed?

Im going for my second Yoter now and im going for a 4runner this time.. Thing is i found a sweet deal on a 95 v6 but its an auto. My plans are whatever lift i need to be able to fully articulate 38's. SAS Later on down the road. Are the automatic trannys strong enough or should i let it go by and be patient for a 5speed. Im not exactly rolling in the dough now either so its not like i just make it bulletproof so im looking to start with a solid base rig which will be a daily driver and weekend warrior. Any commet will be appreciated.

The problem won't be the auto tranny...it will be that wonderful 3.slug.
Personally I would find something with a 3.4 auto and turn it into a trail rig/daily driver.

You could always do a 5spd swap...

The auto tranny is fine, even with the crappy t-case. There are options for the auto trans too. I like mine on the trail, and the on-road isn't too bad. I have the 22re. The auto makes running off road a lot easier to control and it's easier on parts. It really comes down to what you like and what you want.

38's for a DD?! Thats sound more like a trail rig that is forced to drive on the road.

My trans stands up to a lot of abuse, and I wheel it hard.

38's and "not rolling in dough" should never be used in the same paragraph

like others have said, if you plan on shoving 38's under your rig, go with the 3.4 and dont force it to drive on the road as your DD. lol

maybe i missed something, but are you talking about running the 38s on IFS and then doing a SAS later on down the road? now some may disagree, but that dont sound like a to good of an idea.cuz ive always heard on here that 35s is the biggest tire you want on IFS

Technically it wasnt in the same sentence ohh wait you said paragraph..nevermind.. But i know what you mean. Im talking down the road "a very long one at that" Lol and i realized that 38's might be a bit excessive but seriously at least 35's i had 33's on my 1st 89 pickup 22re and they made a world of difference. I put them on there without any body or suspension lift and they didnt rub! Maybe I'll start off with 33's for now since it'll be a daily driver/weekend offroader. And later on when i have some poor excuse for daily transportation i can do the SAS and run 38's . Either way Ive chosen a sweet looking 1989 v6 5speed 4Runner. Ive got more pics in my albums if you wanna check it out. Let the never ending modding begin. LOL Ohh and if your in or around Miami,fl feel free to hit me up i would love to join up with some other Yotas to help some Jeepers in need..lol
