Any ideas on a no start condition for an 85 4runner
Hello all yota fans! I'm having some real troubles with my 85 fuel injected 4runner. My motor cranks strong and I have spark. I'm pretty sure I have fuel. My fuel pump is brand new and so is my circuit open relay. I had an extra afm to try and no luck there. Also the tps tested good. I also have good compression on all 4 cylinders. Recently the truck got a new head and timing set and was running great since July. Right now I'm out of ideas. Is my ecm bad? I love my truck but she is trying my patience! Any and all ideas would be great. Thanks everybody!

starting issues
Just wondering if you have started it after the head and chain ? If not you may be 180 out ,on the dist and crank because after adjusting the valves etc... you need to roll the crank back to TdC . could be ?

I have gone through the vac lines the wire harness and everything that I can think of for the efi. I am completely out of ideas. This might be something stupid I have over looked. Is anybody in the Las Vegas area that would lend a second set of eyes?

Are you sure you have fuel pressure? Just because the fuel pump is new dosent mean its good. Been wrenching for a long time and have seen my share of "new" fuel pumps that dont work right. do you have access to a fuel pressure tester?

There is a test plug on the driver side under the hood. Near the 2 round test plugs is a rectangular plug with two wires. You can find a pic of it if you search the site.
It bypasses the afm so it is a good way to isolate / rule out the afm.

So I ruled out the afm. I had a spare tps sensor got it all clocked in and still no start now I am getting a code for the coolant temp sensor? Can that stop me from starting?

I can't figure this out! I have fuel at the cold start injector and I have spark but it won't start! I could use a christmas miracle! Seriously if there is any body in the Vegas Henderson area that is willing to lend a hand please give me a call 406-545-8242.

lets get back to the basics....
So this thing ran fine and just wouldn't start all of a sudden?
How do you know you have good spark?
Do you know if you're injectors are firing?
Check the resistance of your injector resistor.

Still working on my dang truck! I really have ran out of ideas. My computer keeps flashing different codes every time I clear it and start cranking on it. I have gotten codes for everything from the ecu, tps, afm, coolant temp sensor. I have spark and fuel but my injectors don't seem to be pulsing. I have a steady light with a test light at the injector harnesses.

When I bought my 85 runner, the previous owner gave me a whole box of spare parts.
I was doing some troubleshooting for a hesitation I have around 2,500 rpm and decided to swap out the ecu.
It would fire up but immediately die with the other ecu. I swapped back and it ran again.
If you have the option to swap ecu's with a known good, it would not hurt to try.

One day I was going to work and I stopped at a light b4 making a left turn to get to the parking lot of my job. My truck turned off and never back on again. Change the fuel pump, checked, spark plugs, wires, vacuum hoses and nothing. Used some starting fluid in the air intake and almost started and last things a friend of mine did, after 3 weeks of not finding the solution, he took the circuit opening relay off and tested the connections. With a paper clip made a bypass and finally my truck started. I went to an auto part store and purchased a new relay, The only one they had because it has to b special ordered or from the dealer. The relay is in between the fuel pump and the injectors. There was no fuel going to the injectors nor electrical pulses to start. It sudently stopped working. Check on that. I have a 88 toyota 4runner and this relay is on the passenger sideright side underneath the glove compartment. Check the manual for clarification. Good luck...!
