another one of those gears threads... lol
Well i've been doing some thinking lately, i'm pretty sure i'm gonna lift my 1986 4-Runner , slap some tires on it (33's ), and re-gear.
Its a 22re Automatic with the chain t-case.
Right now i've got 31's on it and its a bit of a dog. Actually, quite a dog with not much power. It gets maybe 300km to a tank if i'm lucky ( thats about 190ish miles ). But thats for another thread lol.
Right now the truck has 4.30's i believe, so i'm guessing if i found some 4.88 thirds i'd be all set to run the 33's ?? or should i grab a set of higher gears and get them installed ?
Also, how do the speedo's work in these is their color-coded gears for the number of teeth on them for the difference in gear/tire values? I'm assuming i'd want me speedo to be pretty close to dead on for the transmission to shift properly as its got the ECT thing or does that matter?
thanks.

4.56's might be just right, IMO
most running stock 4.10's will go to 4.88's when running 33's
coming from stock 4.30's, you may want to go a bit further to 4.56's
that should put you a little closer to stock speedo-reading and power
just my $0.02, but I'm not expert on gearing

Your RPM's would most likely suck with 5.71's. Those are meant for ~37's and above from what I've read.
