Alternater help
OK. So I replaced my alternator and useing my power inverter it showed it was puting out up to 18 volts. I then shut the truck off and now have no power to my ignition. The next day i was trying to check for my fuseible links and of course can't find the dam things and when I check to see if I had brake lights ( which came on) I had power agian. So I started the truck and checked the power going to the battery and it did'nt seem like it was getting a charge, but at the lighter it was still putting out too much voltage. So I shut the truck off and now I'm back at square one with no power to the ignition. But my headlights still work. Anybody have any ideas?

I dont understand what this means. DO you mean you tested with a meter. When its running your putting out 18V?
If this is the case you may have a bad wire from your alt to the battery. Sometimes corrosion will eat down the wire inside the insulation and the wire becomes defective. If this is the case the alternator is not regulated by the battery and is allowed to charge at its capacity, not what the battery/vehile need. I would replace the battery to alternator wire completely and see if you get your charging to a steady +/-13.8volts while running. When replacing use the same gauge, or larger, and make sure the connectors are tight. If you do not have the proper skill or tools to crimp that large, then buy one pre-terminated for you.
As to your other problems, sounds unrelated but I would get the alt. problem repaired first and then post back.

The battery doesnt regulate the alternator charge the regulator does. The battery just stabalizes the electrical system while the vehicle is running. Either the regulator wll be built into the alternator or some have an external regulator. This is more than likely the reason you are showing 18 volts charge is the regulator is bad(or if it is external it is turned up way too high).
I agree you need to fix this problem first to find out why you are having ignition switch problems.
