swapping alternater help!

I'm swapping an 84 engine into my 86 pickup. The alternater have 2 different plugs, the 84 has the L shaped three prong plug and the 86 has a round plug. I need to know which wires go where.

hmmmmm. so one plug on the 84 and a different plug on the 86 is that right? i hate to say it, but are you gonna have to cut and splice.

swap the "regulator" thing that the plug is attached to - AFAIK those are common...
