i have an 85 22re 4x4 runner and unfortunately it was stolen and canabalized.im trying to part it back together.they robbed the distributor and alternater but insteasd of un pluging them they cut the wires.i put a new distributor in and spliced the wires and it starts.but will it stay running?there is a bare piece of wire in there that i couldnt salvage i think it is some kind of nuetral.now i bought the wiring harness for the alternater that is connected to the driver side fenderwell,but its connecters r different.the guy said its off an 87.it looks like they r the same wires so can i just cut off the connectors(that connect it to the main harness) and just splice theese or will it slow down the current.or should i try and find one that fits.both units were for efi so do i need to find one for a 85 only.sorry i have no camera it was in my runner.along with my bumpers,seats,windshield,sidewindows,33inch boggers, distributor,alternater,rear tail lights,etc...they took the time to torch the rear bumper off but left my brand new motor in.so i didnt get completely screwed.

 

The wires are the same but the connectors are different. Just take a small pick and depress the little clip that holds the connector into the housing and remove it. then insert it into the proper connector. I just did this to mine after an alternator meltdown.

 

i dont have the other side they hacked it off.thats why i considered splicing it.but im not to sure how welll it will hold up.
