96 4runner LTD starter repair question
hey just wondering if, once i remove the tranny dipstick, am i going to have to a clean it? will it drain on me or will the tranny fluid start pouring out? just about to go do this and i'm a little concerned....

To clean the dipstick tube (before re-installation) just wipe off any dust that might have gathered on it, and clean the o-ring if it's dirty, then apply some clean ATF to the o-ring before re-installing the dipstick tube.
When you remove the dipstick tube, no tranny fluid will come out. Keep in mind that you are only removing the top half of the tube... not the whole thing (the bottom half of the tube cannot be removed from the tranny pan.)
You may need an extra pair of hands to help you separate the two halves of the dipstick tube. Sometimes they are stuck together quite well. I was able to do the one on my '93 4R by myself, but when we did my friend's '99 Tacoma, we needed three sets of hands to get it to come apart.
