94 sending temp sending unit ?

first off I am new to this forum, and have found it very helpful, so thank all of you for allowing me in here. I have a 94 PU with 22re that I acquired a couple of years ago. needed a new engine. So from here I found a place to buy a rebuilt long block out of Colorado. Well then I came down with an illness and was down for a couple of years, just now getting it back together (me and the truck). I am having trouble figuring out the vaccum hoses, but getting there.
The one problem is the old engine had the temp sending unit mounted on the right side of the block just behind the oil filter. but this block does not have a place there for it. I thought perhaps the block was an older model, but even those I found were there. the truck is running and drivable, but I dont want to drive it without this temp gauge working. Any body know why its not there, or where I can stick this thing?
thanks.

The location you mention sounds like the oil pressure sending unit.

The sending unit for the temperature gauge is on the intake manifold toward the firewall from the thermostat .

I would have to look to say just where.

After searching and searching through threads and sites, I still can not find information on where the sending unit is located at on my 22re for the gauge. It worked before the new engine, I haven't replaced the intake manifold, and through all the searches I have alot of confilcting information. Therre is nothing mounted between 2 and 3 cylinders on the intake manifold. there is nothing on the thermostat housing. there are two temp sensors on the front of the manifold, each with two wires to them. I have one single wire hanging loose fron the harness, but I can not see a sending unit.
I am really hoping some one can put me in touch with a picture of where this thing is located, PLEASE.

OH GOOD GRIEF. I had to disasemmble a couple of things but found it. the single wire I thought was for that apparently isn't. Now I'm left with 3 connectors that I dont have a place to plug them into. But the truck is running good.
thanks for being patient with a partially blind man.

There are a couple different oil sending units available. There's those for the SR5 cluster and for the basic cluster. Search the SR5 cluster swap and you should see some pics!
