`93 4Runner Hatch Problem
Hey guys, new to the forums here.
I'll jump right into it. I don't really know anything about cars, and I got this 4Runner in a trade. I'm happy I really am but there's problems with the vehicle. Of course I'm trying to sort them out to get it road ready but this one's erking me.
My hatch, or tailgate whatever you want to call it. The guy who I bought it off said the window came off the slider so it was his BRIGHT idea to hold the window up with his hands and use sears magazines and insulator foam to keep the window up. Problem is I need to open the tailgate to replace a dead tail light bulb but since the window will not budge I can't get the tailgate down!
If your wondering where I'm from I live on an Island...Yes an island called Newfoundland. This is a province in Canada. Veerrryy eastern.
Also I've been looking EVERYWHEREE for another tailgate for this thing and I literally can't find anything at all. So I'm kinda out of options. I got a budget of $650 to get this thing on the road.

:jessica: You need to figure out how to get the window down.
If need be crawl in over the seat remove the inner panel get the window down and fix it so it works.
having a hatch you can`t open really is a pain.
If you attempt to open the hatch with the glass up the glass will break.

Well the glass isn't actually connected to anything...It's just literally sitting there tucked in with foam. It's OFF the slider too like I said. Is it easy to put the window back on the slider? The panel is already off from the previous owner and there's parts in the back everywhere from it I don't even know what goes where.

it is not really hard to put it all back together if nothing is missing or broken.
The FSM or even the Haynes manual gives you an idea of how it should go together.
The difference between my easy might be quite different then yours i have been working with mechanical devices for 40 years or so.
It can be a learning experience just take your time . If the track is still on the bottom of the window and the one side or both of the regulator (the part attached to the motor) come out .
It can be a pain because you need to get the two regulator arms in the proper position while fighting the spring.
It might be a good idea to get some help perhaps someone near by could lend a hand..
You say your not to good with cars does that mean mechanical aptitude in general . Maybe you build high end machines at your day job.:jessica:

Pictures and location updated. The only thing I'm really thinking about is. Is that for me, I don't think I'll be able to take off the window and put it back on the slider and whatnot and make it workable in a few hours which his all I would have. It is very cold here and almost always always always raining or snowing. Rarely do we see a good day in my location.

Not to make things worse but unless you have a box with extra parts it looks like the handle to open the hatch is missing along with the linkage.
Along with the lock and linkage.
while it would be possible to get the window working if indeed it does work .After getting it back on the track
You would need to leave it open just like it is to unlock and open the hatch.
wise choice to maybe wait to next spring to mess with this. Thing is once you do this and know how it is not that hard.
Watch out for the Moose.

Nah I got the linkage I think, you mean the plastic handle that goes onto the panel right? Has a metal rod thing connected to it?
