I know there are many threads with similar topics but i have yet to see one with the exact problem ive got...
i just bought the 4runner and after doing an oil change (10w30) i have noticed a knock that is only really audible at idle, and not audible all the time... i also noticed the oil pressure has dropped a bit with the 10w30 that i put in it.. im thinkin the guy i bought it off of knew about the knock and put thicker oil in it to quiet it down and bring the oil pressure up to normal as it was when i got it... im thinkin its a rod bearing that is knocking... the valves tick even after adjusting them, and you cant really hear the knock outside the vehicle because of the ticking, its mostly just audible from inside, and does sound like its coming from the lower end of the engine but again im hearing it inside so i dont really know... the engine was apparantley rebuilt after the timing chain broke.. so im guessing the previous owner didnt take the best care of it... any ideas? engine rebuild was at 192 and i bought it at 197... probably not the smartest move..

 

if anyone reads this... i also noticed that the noise doesnt start right away..
also checked for metal fragments in the oil and did not see or feel any... put some lucas oil stabilizer in and that brought up the oil pressure, but the knocking still remains.... any help or ideas would be appreciated..


hopefully its just the timing chain tensioner or guides or something "easy" to fix....

 

22r motor just makes knocks and ticks when they idle. Try a valve adjustment, that might quiet it down a little.

 

did a valve adjustment last weekend.. didnt think to check the timing chain when i had the cover off though... theres gotta be something wrong because the oil pressure is lower than before... i dunno, guess ill just drive it and see what happens..

 

if you knock on your dash lightly with your knuckle to the speed of the engine when it idles is basically the exact sound i hear my engine making...
