92 Yota with a few questions / issues

My first post so a big Hi to all .....

I Just bought a 1992 Yota truck ex cab, 4cly standard with 185 000 km on it Yes I am from Canada ....... I am loving this truck 1000 X better than the mazda I had ........!!!!!

I am getting a short squeel when i release the clutch in 1st. The clutch seems realy good to me and to other ppl that drive it . When i stop some times it also smells like clutch. I have had my Ski-doo in the back towing a trailer and a second sled with no issues lots of pull and power even in 2 & 3 ........ so i dont think i need a new one

second problem is my heater controles dont allways light up
i would say they do once out of ten times ...... any idea ? they work A+ but just dont light up ??????

i am new to toyotas, what should i do / look for with a truck this old ? any problems .......

Thanks

Jon G

clutch issue could be throw-out bearing...

not lighting up could just be the socket, or a bad ground... pop the cover off and take a look.

ya it should... but it was the first thing that came to mind... and I've seen weirder things.

alright, try this... from a standstill try to start in any other gear and see if it makes the same squeel.

After I did this a few times the motor started to make a weird noise, its almost like a loud Growl that comes and goes. I took it to a local Toyota guy and he said that it did not sound like the timing chain (what would the chain sound like) he suggested it was in a pulley, also said that it sounded like it was not getting oil to the top end …. I was OMFG …… and I didn’t use the those letters ……… I had to drive it home,

So if the oil was not getting to the top end the motor would have been knocking it brains out by now …….. it was a fair drive back to the house …… How would you check to see if the top end was getting oil ? ( I am thinking start it up with the filler cap off and if any comes spitting out oil is getting to the top end )

My next step is to take off the belts and run the motor for a SHORT time to see if the noise is in one of the pulleys.

How could I check the tension of the timing chain ?

What do you think ?

Thanks
Jon
