'92 22re injection problem?
already searched the forum for hours so here goes.

cranks well cold
runs great cold and then after it's warm
i drive to the coffee shop running like a new trk. idles great when i pull into the parking lot.
drink coffee for 30-40 minutes
crank back up, rpms run up and then drop to almost dieing, will sometimes die.
take back off, it has no power, almost no throttle response EXCEPT at WOT.
it will barely pull itself under WOT.
this lasts for a mile or 2 then it runs PERFECTLY once again.
MOST of the time, if i do not kill the engine after the initial crank, it runs PERFECTLY. i drove 125 miles the other day after the initial crank and it was perfect.
have checked every vacuum line. all are on and all are in good shape.
replaced fuel filter.....made zero difference
air filter is new.
i have only owned the trk 2 weeks and it has been doing this since i bought it.
avg 24.7 mph on every tank. i drive mostly local and max at 35-40 mph
questions:
my experience with gm in-tank fuel pumps is that they either work perfectly or or dead
are toyota fuel pumps the same? or can they be "weak" before failing?
can the fuel regulator cause this?
on my 2nd crank (after coffee) if i let the engine idle for 20-30 seconds more times than not it will run perfectly. if i crank and take off it ALWAYS falls on it's nose, no power, etc.
i have overhauled carbs for over 50 years with great success. this is my first injected engine to deal with (cant afford to take it to a shop) and i've researched the injection since i bought the trk.
i dont have a pressure gauge to ck fuel pressure and have no idea where to connect it if i did.
i appreciate ANY help
if i cant repair it myself (and soon) i just gonna sell it.
thanks in advance

You never said Manual or Auto??Does it have a good strong electrical system .
I had one just about drove me around the bend The system voltage dropped so low the fuel pump being tired and old could barely push enough fuel to keep it running.
The alternator brought the system up all was good to go.
A combination of age on the charging system and a tired fuel pump from being run on fumes way to long
Cause once it is running and things are up your good to go.Just a thought.
Your dealing with a electric fuel pump computer controlled injectors of course the computer itself Low system voltage does strange things.
It gets to low it all shuts off.

it's a manual
my voltage is 13.6 with ac blowing wide open and 13.7 idleing with nothing running.
the tps gives really weird readings so i got one ordered.
we'll see if that fixes it
if it doesnt, i just bought an intake, carb, air cleaner and distributor out of a '79 and i can have it back old school in about 3 hrs.
i'd love to get the injection working right because of the extra power and mileage but if i cant, it's back to basics that i can fix with my eyes shut

I moaned and groaned when they went from carb to fuel injection. Now I am so glad they went fuel injection. If you dont have a manual, try following some of 4crawlers tips http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTri....shtml#REPAIRS I would check the TPS. Vacuum leaks will cause issues.

been there-done that
i did all the non-electronic stuff 1st
all vauum lines are like new and on securely
timing is prefect
new fuel filter
just borrowed a gauge and fuel pressure is perfect
new coil/etc/etc/etc
and i have a tps on order
having owned both carb and injected many times over, i will take a carb any day over the injection if given a choice.
why? both will eventually have a problem. the injection can have a multitude of things wrong
the carb has 3 simple circuits that brain dead politician can fix
be well...

solved the injection problem but not like you think
new tps came yesterday. installed, set it according to the manual. ran bad, idled bad, was horrible.
so, i removed the new tps, installed the old tps but left it unplugged.
havent driven it normally while waiting for the new tps.
did my normal driving yesterday pm and all day (over 100 miles) today. truck ran like new. zero injection problems and still getting 24+ mpg.
so, my fix was to unplug the tps.
yeah, makes no sense at all, but my truck runs like new now

another 125 miles and the truck is still running PERFECT with the tps unplugged. power is great, throttle response is great, mileage today was 24.62mpg.
so, mpg is unchanged
power is up
throttle response is great
cranks/idles perfectly
cold cranking is perfect

just got back from a trip to texas. 1354 miles round trip. avg mileage for the trip was 24.3 running the AC the whole way.
truck ran PERFECT the whole trip.
someone tell me again, what is the TPS supposed to do
seriously, i know that some trks run horrible (if at all) with the tps unplugged but mine runs great. i live at 9669' in the mtns and traveled to 441' in east texas. the altitude differences made no difference at all. it ran great everywhere.
i can only guess that the toyota injection system has a lot of redundancy to run this good with one component unplugged.
