We have had this 1990 toy V6 4x4 since it was new. About 2 years ago it has had this problem;

Takes a long time to warm up, according to our temperture gauge. And if you don't let it warm up for at least 10 to 15 minutes it has a hard time going and now has begun to stall. It feels and sounds to me like it is flooding when I depress the throttle.

We have had the thermostat replaced (3 times...Grrrr), water pump replaced (2 times...Grrrrr), engine computer replaced, 02 sensor replaced.

No codes have come up?

Once the truck is warmed up it runs like new? And runs well the rest of the day even it stopped for awhile. But if it sits overnight (for a long period) it starts fine, but will lack power and stall until it warms up. When it stalls it sounds just like a truck would if it had a surge of gas (flooding).

sounds like a cold start injector or a cold start injector time switch problem. Do a search for that and it should give you the test procedures. Odd that it takes 15 minutes for it to warm up, is the fan locked?

 

I just checked the fan, but it appears to working normally.

Ever had the head gasket replaced? If it's losing compression because of a head gasket leak that could cause it to run poorly until it's warmed up, expanding the metal and basically sealing the leak. Quite possibly not it, but it's something to check. Does it use any coolant? Doesn't really account for the "flooding" symptoms or taking a long time to heat up, though.

Yes we have changed the headgasket, compression is good, and it does not use any coolant.

At this point I am going to check (3) things.
1. Coolant temp. sensor
2. Cold start fuel injector
3. Cold start injector time switch

 

Cool. Yeah, I'm working with an '83, so there's only so much that can be wrong! Once you've got a computer and fuel injection, I'm lost.
