89 pickup tranny question

I have an 89 pickup, 4 wheel drive with the 22re in it. I believe the tranny in it is a W56. I am in need of a new trans and was wondering if a trans out of a newer tacoma would fit in. I believe they are W59's; came out of a 2.7. If anyone know please let me know, maybe i can switch out the bell housing and makie it work? Im not sure,anything helps
Thanks =)

The doorsill sticker will tell you exactly what trans, axles, ect...absolutely should be a w56 though

try to match the bolt paterns of the R150 and R150F from 95 onward your bell housing and t case will need to be used though i think the length will be the same but the front drive shaft is on the opposite side of the truck. the only way you might find out is to try and fit them together. the spline count from trans to t case should be the same. once again dont quote me but a tape measure and some carefull fitting will make certian for you

Thanks guys I appreciate it! What's the difference with the g52? What are the gearing numbers. I rarely ever beat in my truck I just commute in it . The only reason I asked this was because I found a good deal on a 59 .

For a commuter, you need to replace the W56 with what is in there, either top or forward shift. Do the rear main seal and a new clutch while you are in there.

I just had the engine out and rebuilt . I put new everything on there along with the clutch probably 15 thousand miles ago ... I probably will be getting a new clutch anyway . The trans has been bad for a while just not bad enough to worry about nut recently it has been getting worse falling out of first hard I'm take offs and lately it falls out of 3rd driving down the road
