'87 Forerunner won't start
Hey, guys. First post on this forum, and I'm hoping you can help me diagnose a problem...
My roommate's 1987 EFI 4runner has been refusing to start recently, probably about twice a week. In between it runs fine, no roughness or funny idle. It cranks, but won't catch. If given a healthy shot of ether it will eventually fire, and then run great. I checked the spark from the coil last time this happened, and it seemed nice and blue/white. (I need to check the plugs/wires, but they wouldn't be intermittent, or keep it from coughing at all) I think this is a fuel or computer problem.
When it's misbehaving, all the lights, gauges, and accessories seem to work fine.
The alternator is about 1 year old.
The TPS ohms out at 300 closed, and 7K WOT, both within spec I think. Smooth progression between open and closed.
The cold start injector ohms out OK (3 ohms), as does the temp switch controlling it.
Being intermittent, I think it's got to be electrical...? I'll be throwing a fuel filter on soon, though.
Oh- no real strong smell of gas when it won't start, and the temperature outside is between 10-30F.
So, any ideas?

First off, its 4Runner heh. Its blasphemy to call it a Forerunner.
even tho the cold start itself is good...perhaps relay for the cold start? Or the Circuit open relay?

Wow, thanks guys! That looks like just the thing. I'll try the jumper next time it craps out.
Google's great, but after hanging out on thesamba.com for a few years I've found out that for specialized knowledge you can't beat talking to people.
