81 pickup 22r overheating!

Ok so it doesnt actually overheat to the point where it is in the red but it gets to close for comfort. It seems like it only gets that way if i hit speeds of 50mph or more other wise it runs cool. I just replaced the thermostat, water pump, and when all that failed we found that it was leaking at the intake so we replaced the intake gasket. Its also losing massive amounts of oil like two quarts every 40 miles or so. So i have to constantly pull over and refill it. At this point im pretty lost with this thing I dont know where to start next so any advice will help!!!

Is your truck leaking this oil to the outside?

If you are loosing a quart every 20 miles or so to a leak, It would seem likely that the whole underside of your truck would be oil wet.
Have you done any tune-up work to it? Sometimes incorrect timing can make them run hot.

I did see that there was quite a bit of oil on the underside. And i dont think it would be the timing since it only gets hot when i go 50 or faster i just cant think of what would cause this because it was running great just a few days ago

I would nail the oil leak, try giving your engine a Bath, protect the things you don't want to get wet, once you get all the oil off you will be able to see where your losing your oil.

Ok so i figured out the oil situation but now i cant figure out why its running hotter then normal. I replaced the thermistat, water pump, intake gasket and the clutch fan. I know its not my radiator either.

Have you felt the upper and lower radiator hoses does one feel real hot or not very hot. I know on the 22re's you can get an air lock going in the upper hose. Not sure if its the same on a 22r. If so park it facing uphill as steal as you can safely go. Pop the radiator cap while its cool and start the truck. If its an air lock the elevation should help it push out. If that doesn't make a difference then have you let it come up to temp with the cap off and looked to see if water is moving properly. I'm just guessing here. Hope this helps good luck.

What was the oil situation btw? Have you done a compression check? I take it you already verified your not mixing oil and water? Sometimes a pin prick leak will go undetected because it only leaks when it's pressurized. Also most of the water that leaks out will evaporate before it reaches the ground if its spraying against something warm. So it would be hard to find. I know a few shops in the seattle area charge around $100 for a leak down test. That might be an option if we exhaust all the others. Others have been able to pressurize their cooling system by adapting a bike foot pump to ft the overflow tube hose. Bring it up to around 10-12 lbs psi and wait and see. Don't go over Toyotas recommended psi ratting you can and will cause more problems.
