Its all personal prefrence. The automatic in the 95.5 + tacos and 96+ 4runners is pretty good. I would go with a 5sp because I like them hahah

Manual with crawler FTW

Automatic
PRO: don't have to worry about stalling it, easy to 2 foot drive for poor man's limited slip
CON: no compression braking, can be hard to predict when torque converter will stop slipping, can't start in gears higher than first if you need more wheelspeed

Manual
PRO: more direct connection, better choice and control of power/wheelspeed, compression braking
CON: stall

Forget the autos before 1996. They are so slow. Especially if you are used to the integra. Well the mauals will be slow too but the auto will suck. And if your not doin alot of wheeling you wont stall it. (if your good on a manaul)

just personal preferance... i'd rather have a manual for cases where you dont want a whole lot of wheelspin, an auto woud be nice at 6 in the morning when you dont feel like shifting... but my truck sees a lot of off road so i'd stick with the manual... just how you like doin things, we cant tell you whats better

Yeah personal prefrence x512. I myself am in the market, I love doin the pedal dance off road and I really hardly ever stalled when I was in my old, Well wrecked, Truck. I just dont like not being in control of gears while driving an auto, Or not being able to wind it up. If your gonna get a 2.7 runner i would deff look for a 5 speed.

With the 3.4 turning 35's, you can do 4.88's for either.
