4wd on pavement

4wd on pavement

I need to know if it is bad to drive on dry pavement in 4wd. I have a guy that keeps sayin it will mess up transfer case but i have this steep as road i go up to go wheelin at the top and i lock the hubs and go up in 4WL to keep rpms down alittle and so i can make it up. IS THIS BAD

That's fine, just don't leave it in 4x4 all the time.

LOL its hella steep i can make it in first but its screamin cant use 2nd so i just put in 4 low and go up in 3rd

Unlock the hubs. No reason to be in 4wd on pavement.
2wd low is fine for the pavement.

well i wanna do gears but i still want to retain my good gas milege and biggest tires i wanna run are 33s so what should i put in it

From a write-up by sb5walker on things to know about these trucks:

Sticky 4WD engagement - our transfer cases have a quirk where if you run it in 4wd on a surface with good traction (like a dry road or one that's just wet) the 4wd may later get balky at engaging. You can move the selector to 4 high or low, but it won't engage. The solution is to drive forwards and backwards repeatedly (on a slippery surface) until it engages. I've seen this take some time. The lesson is, make sure you run in 4wd only on slippery surfaces.

33s would go with 4.88s and my mileage is still good with 529s and 36s and all my engine mods and gears are so much nicer on your motor
