4runner wandering at higher speeds
All the searching i've done on this topic refers to 3rd gen 4runners. Mine is a 1990 4runner with a 4" suspension lift and 33x12.5 18's on it, the rear lift is a longarm, front is still IFS unfortunately. I purchased this about a week ago and right around 60-65 on the freeway it starts moving side to side, almost like a snake swimming in the water. It's not predictable at all and sometimes doesn't do it for a bit, but it does happen frequently. I took it in last week and had the suspension gone through and my CV axles were both bad as well as one tie rod end. Changed those out this weekend on my own of course and Its still the same. Replaced the Steering stabilizer as well. The articles I have found on here have talked about 2 things, steering rack bushings and loose body mounts or bushings. As far as I can tell steering rack bushings are for 3rd gen 96 and on. Could it really be the body mounts or bushings on this? Or could there be something else I'm missing. I am taking it in this week to get the alignment and balancing on the tires ensured.

smart thing getting the suspension etc checked out. Do the tires show any obvious signs of being out of balance?
one thing i notice on my truck is that some of the wandering it does is also relative to the condition of the road...Local roads it is fine, get it on the highway where you can see an actual rut from the high amount of traffic/trucks and it will wander a bit more.

check ur swaybar and make sure the endlinks arent broken, also did u have it lined up after you replaced the frontend parts, if everything looks good try rotating the tires. there are so many things that could cause it, maybe excessive play in steering box, just a few ideas, good luck

From: Nashville TN. I can help you if you're close BUT NOBODY CAN HELP YOU IF YOU DON'T FILL YOUR LOCATION IN!
It's a lifted 4Runner guys... Come on... "Lifted" means a person of unknown intellect has messed with what the factory nailed, on the 1st try...
I'm going to say rear panhard bar... You want to see it nice and level, IF you even have one. And the tires should have equal room to the frame on both sides. The axle jacked to one side indicates the drop brackets not being used, and the pan hard bar is too short.
A lot of times when they get lifted ppl forget about the bar, b/c they think it's not important.
So take a pic of the rear, or even the front... Pics help us...
And another thing. There is nothing wrong with IFS so I don't get the "IFS, unfortunately".
And if you're dogging it now, just wait till you get a leaf spring SFA together with coil springs on the back... It'll be tight in the front, and loose as a goose from the coils in the rear.
So now you're gonna learn after you do all this, the same thing most guys with SA 4Runners do, which is convert the rear to leaf spring... Only I'm telling you now instead of learning this AFTER...
So now your $1,000 SA prodject just turned into $2,000 and a ton of down time while you weld the mounts and get the geometry right...
When you could have just left the IFS alone and it would have been fine.

I run 33x12.5's and I wander a bit too. Mine is caused by the previously mentioned ruts in the road, the tire is just wide enough it won't sit down in the rut, and wants to bounce in and out all the time.
