33x12.50xR15 on a 90 4runner with 1.5 lift

I have ordered the option II lift from TRDparts & I am going to buy new tires
I was looking at 33x10.50's but I ran across a guy selling some 33x12.50s for 400.00obo I measured my front tire 30x9.50 from the widest point to the upper a-arm as it seemed to be the closest point to the tire at full lock & I got about 2ins.
The 12.50's are 3in wider so 1.5 on ea side it seems like it might work but is there anything that I am not seeing that may cause a problem.
I know that I will have the trim the back of the front fenders but am I good otherwise.
Thanks
Tommy

i have a 1.5" lift on my 89 (which is pretty much the same up front as your 90). and i have 31x10.50's on right now. yesterday i was just measuring because i wanted to go up to 33x12.50's also. you're right that the closest fit will be the tire hitting the upper a-arm. the difference from the 10.50 to the 12.50 is 1" on each side and i measured just a little over 1" of clearance. so it's going to be close. my wheels are 15x8 with 3.75 of backspacing. unfortunately, i think that the clearance is so close, that it will come down to the slight differences in size between tire manufacturers. so some tires may be fine and others may rub.

Personally, I think you'll rub like a fat chick wearing cordoroy britches.

You may need to do some extensive trimming at the front wheel well to clear them or add a 1" body lift if needed:

I have no problem trimming the fender. I am considering shaving the lip on the stock control arms & I think it might work.
I had hoped that someone had already done this.
Wabbit I might talk to you next Sat about trimming the arms while your working on the disco's
Thanks for the replys guys keep them comming I have learned alot in my 3 weeks of being here.

33x10.50 fit on my '93 with no lift and no rubbing, so they would definitely fit with that lift, be lighter (better acceleration and gas mileage) and probably the same (some actually argue - better) traction.

ONLY downside to 33x10.50-15 on our trucks is the very limited tire selection. BFG A/T & M/T, Dunlop Radial Rover RVXT, and Super Swamper are it I think.

TC your one of the reasons I am thinking about tring this. If you can fit 33x10.50's at stock height then I would think it might be possible to do 33x12.50's with a mild lift.

You can run them but you may want to go with a 10.5 instead. I am running the 12.50's but wish I would have got 10.50's somedays. I like the look of the 12.50's but with the IFS setup and if you add a locker you are more than likely going to break something. Just too much tire for the IFS in my opinion. I just got back from a trip this past weekend where I snapped my drivers side inner axle. The new axle is machined thicker than the origanal and should take a beating better. I was surprised the CV or Warn Manual Hub didn't go first. This picture doesn't really show the angle that well but it was really steep and the front was locked and digging good right up until it snapped. This is where I snapped it.

i'm going to do a Detroit softlocker in the rear but not one in the front unless I find an arb real cheap. I am going to look into some stronger axels in the future anyway.
thanks for the claification. I thought you had 12.50's from your avatar pic
