22RE transmission question

Hey guys.

This is my first post on here and I have a question.

My 1988 4x4 5spd pops out of 1st gear. I'm assuming it is the syncros, but anyways... I've found a near-bodyless '88 4x4 with the V6 and 5spd for $400.

Can the v6 5spd bolt up to the 22re?

The transmission issue isn't bad, if you apply a little pressure it'll stay in gear, and plus, who uses 1st gear much anyway? It's just this truck only has 156k on it and the body and paint are perfect (no rust) thanks to a recent restoration... so just to have everything perfect, the trans needs to be fixed.

If it doesn't work, maybe I'll swap the whole drivetrain... or find a 7MGTE

It could be the teflon ball on the bottom of the shifter, not sure if that causes pop out. It definately causes sloppiness.

For the V56 (R150) transmission, you would need to obtain a (rare) bell housing from a turbo (22RET) truck, which mates an R-series (R151) transmission to a 22R/RE block.

That sucks that the bellhousings are rare... It's an option I was thinking about for mine in the future.

If its popping out of gear but not grinding on the way in I'd guess it's a blocker ring.

Path of least resistance would be to keep scrounging for a W56B tranny. Get yourself a new clutch for it while its apart.
