they are the same basic engine with the block being different of course the whole front of the engine is different .

I always have liked your truck and the old Celicas have great looks as well.
I also tried to convert an 84 block to EFI and know there were some 84 EFIs out there, but the intake bolt holes would not lineup to the heads bolt holes. When you get to that stage of tear down could you post some pics of your intake.

Everything is pretty much torn down and just waiting for it to go to the machine shop... what's the best way to transport just the short block? I have a cherry picker but nothing comes to mind other than using the head bolts I think.

If you don't have the factory lift hooks, go snag some from some wreck in the local yard. If your talking about actually transporting, set it in the bed on an old tire (no wheel...) and put a couple ratchet straps on top to stabilize it.
