22r feels hot, but freshly started cold
my 22r in my 87 seems to run hot sometimes (i'm amazed how moody my truck is lol) i'll start it up cold, let it run for maybe ten minutes till the choke lets out (yes that's another issue i haven't gotten around to fixing even though i know the problem). and after about 15 to twenty minutes on the road, driving feels as though the engine is hot; slightly under powered, valve tapping, throttle feels loose, increased engine noise. almost like it's low on oil or something. this is my first project and everything i've done to this truck is a learning experience and the first time doing it in my life. i've had to teach myself most things, but just consider that before chewing me out about being a noobile at this. any help would be EXTREMELY appreciated.
P.S. yes i've changed out the fluids and radiator hoses multiple times. new thermastat, but no temp guage

"feels hot" is not on the dashboard. If the temp gauge is normal than the problem is carb or emissions You listed it as an R, maybe past due for a carb rebuild. Put a oil pressure gauge on it as well.

i have no temp guage, thus the phrase "feels hot". couldn't tell you if it is or not though. rebuilt the carb no more than 8 months ago. i'll check the valves and timing, but it's been looked at by our family friend/mechanic and he says it's timed and good to go. i may be not used to the lack of power from the 22r though as well. i owned a camaro while working on this and getting it on the road, the effects of the camaro may still be lingering lol

How do you not have a temp gauge? Might want to figure out why it doesn't work or get an aftermarket one...they seem to work better than your hand lol.
These trucks don't compare to a camaro in terms of go power, but I know the lingering feeling. I always put my foot to the floor in the 4runner after I drive my s10.
