2000 4runner transponer key no workie, programing help?
Its a $12.99 Ebay (prolly China) key, so far I tried these two techniques with no success:
3. Insert the already registered Master Transponder key in the ignition.
4. Turn the ignition switch from "LOCK" to "ON" 5 times, very fast.
5. Open and close the Drivers door 6 times, very fast.
6. Remove the master key from the ignition switch.
7. Insert the new key in the key cylinder within 10 seconds of removing the Master key.
8. Leave the key in the ignition switch for at least 60 seconds, after that the Theft light should go out.
9. Remove the key. The key should now be programmed into the ECU.
1.Simultaneously depress and release brake and accelerator pedals 1 time.
2.Insert master key into ignition
3.Within 15 seconds depress and release accelerator pedal 5 times.
4.Within 20 seconds depress and release the brake pedal 6 times and remove key.
5.Within 10 seconds insert new key into ignition.
6.Within 10 seconds depress and release the accelerator pedal 1 time.
7.After 80 seconds new key is registered and security light goes off.
8.Remove new key and depress and release brake pedal 1 time.
Any suggestions BESIDES going to the dealer? TIA

I've gotten several transponder keys over eBay for two 1999 4runners and the two Ford Tauruses that I couldn't get rid of fast enough (I didn't buy either Taurus, in my own defense - one was a hand-me-down I got in high school and the other one came with the wife).
Long story short, I've had good luck getting all of those keys except one to work. I think I just got a bad transponder chip in one key.

I too had an issue when trying to program an extra key. My 2000 4 runner was purchased used, so I only got the one key. I read somewhere that these systems will only allow 4 keys total to be programmed / stored in ecu memory at one time.
When I tried to program the key I purchased off Ebay, it would not work, and I tried the 2 methods mentioned in this thread.
Finally, I took a chance and went through the procedure for ''Deleting all but one Key'', and actually saw a response from the system, when following the instructions for doing so... also posted in this thread. It did not erase the Master key that I was using.
After that, I went back and tried the procedure that starts with ''Simultaneously depress gas & brake pedal at the same time' .... and it did work this time.
On thing I noted, this time is that on the step when you switch keys from Master to one being programmed, the security light stays off when you remove the Master Key and insert the blank one, but as soon as you press the gas pedal the one time, it starts blinking again. And sure enough after about a minute the security light went out, remove the key, hit the brake, and it was done. A relief, as I had tried all the programming procedures a dozen times each, but until I used the ''Delete Key'' procedure, nothing would happen.
Hope this helps, as this can be somewhat frustrating.
