2000 4Runner Brief Hesitation on Low RPM Acceleration
Hi all,
My first post. I did search the forums first and tried all the solutions I found but none fixed my issue.
2000 4Runner
Manual Transmission
6 Cylinder 5VZ FE
4WD
207,000 Miles
This truck has basically always run great but a couple of months ago I noticed a minor hesitation problem. It occurs at any temperature from morning cold start to hot days, so temp seems to be irrelevant. Specifically, I get a little "bump" and only briefly and just one short instance. Then the acceleration continues normally without additional hesitations.
The hesitation always occurs between 1000 and 1500 RPMs like if I shift to second at 2000 RPMs it'll drop down to like 1200 (kind of lugging the engine which I know is bad) but my wife's identical 2000 4Runner does not have the issue. It also occurs if I go from 2nd to 3rd where the shift to 3rd leaves me in the 1000-1500 RPM range.
It does not do it every time and seems to happen only after a shift (i.e. if I just slow down without down shifting and accelerate from the 1000-1500 zone it doesn't hesitate. I have cleaned the MAF and the throttle body air intake butterfly area really well. I get NO codes when I pull them with my OBD II Scanner.
I think that about covers it but I will be happy to answer any addition questions. I know I can just avoid the issue by shifting at a higher RPM which is better anyway but old habits die hard :-)
Thanks all,
Paul
