How do you tell the difference between the 2.4 L and 2.7 L? This is a 1996 Tacoma 4x4. Thanks.

 

what do you mean? Give your owner's manual a quick look and it will give you an under-the-hood diagram of the truck. For example, if ... battery is on the left side + dipstick over here + fuse box up front etc. then it's one engine. That's the lazy way.

 

5th digit on the vin (lower left-driver's side-windshield)....
2.4=L
2.7=M

 

I do not have the owner's manual. I thought there was a way to verify by using VIN just was not sure. Thanks Habanero.

 

Assuming it's the same or same size engine the truck started with.

The 4x4 Tacomas never came with a 2.4L 2RZ, the 5 lugs only got those little rascals.

Also there may be a sticker on the valve cover.

 

Thanks again. Yes I did buy it and felt like since it was 4x4 it would be the 2.7 L. Just wanted to be sure.
