1st gen hub question..

i have an 87 4runner with the manual front hubs. do i have to worry at all about them if i take off the wheel or get new wheels? Am i going to have to take that off or is it actually part of the axle?

The hubs will stay with the axle if you remove the tires.

You'll have to take apart the whole front end if you remove the wheel... haha!, no I'm just kidding, Don't worry about them they're bolted on they wont come off if you just take the wheels off.
